Road to glory: Top Greater Taunton H.S. sports postseason performers for June 3-9 (2024)

It's high school tournament time in the Greater Taunton area.

Last week, Bridgewater-Raynham baseball finished off its season in style with a walk-off win over back-to-back Division 1 finalists Franklin while Bridgewater-Raynham softball secured a walk-off win over Greater New Bedford. A Taunton runner set a new school record at the MIAA Meet of Champions while another tied one. Bridgewater-Raynham and Dighton-Rehoboth girls lacrosse scored big first round wins and Bridgewater-Raynham boys lacrosse was on the right side of an overtime thriller.

Here's all of the scores, stats and highlights from the first full week of June.

Wednesday

Baseball

Chris Wallace led the way at the plate for No. 6 Taunton (19-5, 14-2 Hockomock), going 2-for-3 with a run as the Tigers fell 6-1 to No. 11 Durfee at home in the Division 1 Round of 16 to wrap up the season. Brayden Cali went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Jack Cali took the loss after going three innings giving up a pair of runs on four hits and a walk while striking out six. Johnny Escobalez went four innings giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits and a pair of walks while striking out six.

Maddex Mendoza led the way at the plate for No. 11 Dighton-Rehoboth (14-8, 9-6 SCC), going 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI as the Falcons fell 6-3 to No. 6 Tantasqua on the road in the Division 3 Round of 16 to wrap up the season. Charlie Roth went 3-for-4 with an RBI while Ben Miller and Gavin Salera both went 0-for-2 with a run and Brennan Silva went 2-for-4. Will LaBrie took the loss, going 3⅔ innings giving up five runs (two earned) on four hits and a pair of walks while striking out three. Cole Viveiros tossed the final 2⅓ innings giving up an unearned run on a hit and walk while striking out two.

Softball

Sam Lincoln led the way for No. 3 Taunton (22-0, 16-0 Hockomock), going all seven innings giving up an unearned run on a pair of hits while striking out 17, including the 500th of her high school career, while also going 3-for-4 with three RBIs at the plate as the Tigers beat No. 19 Newton North 10-1 at home in the Division 1 Round of 16. Brooke Aldrich went 2-for-4 with a home run, a pair of runs and three RBIs while Aniyah Bailey went 2-for-3 with three runs, Bella Bourque went 1-for-4 with a run and a pair of RBIs, Mia Torres went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, Cate Larson and Molly Carnes each had a run and Madison Crowley went 2-for-2.

Maddie DeLano led the way for No. 13 Bridgewater-Raynham (15-7, 7-1 SEC), going all six innings giving up nine runs (four earned) on 11 hits and four walks and went 1-for-3 with an RBI at the plate as the Trojans fell 9-1 to No. 4 Lincoln-Sudbury on the road in the Division 1 Round of 16 to wrap up the season. Sam Clay had a run as a pinch runner.

Boys Lacrosse

Colin Carfa*gna scored the lone goal for No. 13 Bridgewater-Raynham (13-7) as the Trojans fell 16-1 to No. 4 Marshfield on the road in the Division 2 Round of 16 to wrap up the season.

Softball

Cam Cloonan led the way at the plate for No. 1 Dighton-Rehoboth (20-3, 11-3 SCC), going 1-for-2 with a pair of runs as the Falcons beat No. 17 Foxboro 5-2 at home in the Division 3 Round of 16. Haleigh Kelley went 0-for-2 with a run and a pair of RBIs while Izzy Moss went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Skye Harrison went 1-for-3 with a run. Edy Latour earned the win, going all seven innings giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out six and had an RBI at the plate.

Baseball

Dwayne Burgo led the way at the plate for No. 6 Taunton (19-4, 14-2 Hockomock League), going 2-for-4 with four runs and a pair of RBIs as the Tigers beat No. 38 Whittier Tech 19-0 at home in the Division 1 Round of 32. Andrew Cali went 2-for-4 with three runs and a pair of RBIs while Caden Lindskog went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and a pair of RBIs, Chris Wallace went 1-for-3 with a run and three RBIs and Jared Spencer and Xavier Spencer each went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Brady Morin earned the win after going five shutout innings giving up a pair of hits and a walk while striking out eight. Johnny Escobalez tossed a shutout inning in relief giving up a hit before Tyler Lacerda tossed the final shutout inning giving up a walk while striking out three.

Softball

Sam Lincoln tossed her third perfect game of the season, going all five innings striking out 10 while also going 2-for-2 with an RBI at the plate as No. 3 Taunton (21-0, 16-0 Hockomock) beat No. 30 Lexington 18-0 at home in 4½ innings of Division 1 Round of 32 action. Aniyah Bailey went 4-for-4 with three runs and four RBIs while Brooke Aldrich went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs, three runs and four RBIs, Bella Bourque went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and four RBIs, Mia Torres went 2-for-3 with three runs and a pair of RBIs, Molly Carnes went 1-for-1 with a run and an RBI and Madison Crowley went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI.

Girls Lacrosse

Emily Keefe led the way for No. 32 Bridgewater-Raynham (7-15, 2-2 Southeast Conference) with a pair of goals and an assist as the Trojans fell 20-4 to No. 1 Central Catholic on the road in the Division 1 Round of 32 to wrap up the season. Ashley McLaren and Emily Long both found the back of the net for B-R.

Karina Bosco led the way for No. 25 Dighton-Rehoboth (11-7, 5-4 South Coast Conference) with a pair of goals, a pair of assists and six draws as the Falcons fell 22-5 to No. 8 Bedford on the road in the Division 3 Round of 32 to wrap up the season. Gia Papa had a goal and an assist while Mara Levesque and Skyla Stott each had a goal. Phoebe Braga made nine saves in net for D-R.
